Dear Physicians:
Many of you are aware of the Open Payments program operated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posted on its publicly accessible website by June 30. Please make time to log-on before the May 15 deadline to review your annual data about any payments you received from pharmaceutical companies, device manufacturers, and group purchasing organizations. The data may include consulting fees, honoraria, reimbursement for expenses, research grants, teaching grants and even the cost of food provided at receptions of professional meetings or similar events by industry members.
You have the right to dispute any information you believe to be incorrect. Please take advantage of this review opportunity as data may have inaccuracies that your patients or the media may see.
How to Register/Review Your Data
Things to know before you register:
- Once you start each step, you have to finish it. You can’t save your work and come back to it later.
- You’ll need to know your National Provider Identifier (NPI), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number, and state license number (SLN).
- You’ll need to use Internet Explorer versions 9 or 10, or the latest version of Firefox.
Step 1: Register in the Enterprise Identity Management System.
(This step confirms your identity and makes sure others can’t get your information).
Step 2: Register in the Open Payments system of the Enterprise Identity Management System.
(This step lets you see the data reported about you. If you have a staff member that will review the data, you can nominate one person in the system (Click here to see the reference guide) so they can see your data),

- If you registered last year, you are not required to register again this year. However, if it has been over 180 days since you logged onto the EIDM, your account has been deactivated for security purposes. You will need to contact the CMS Help Desk (openpayments@cms.hhs.gov or 855-326-8366, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm) to re-activate your account.
- In addition, if you have not logged-on in the last 60 days and can’t remember the answers to your security questions you also will need to call the CMS Help Desk, which will take approximately 5 minutes.
