Mansfield Youth Services Cope is a semester long mentoring program aimed at working with children who may be going through any sort of family change - whether it be divorce, death, moving, etc. We teach these children valuable coping mechanisms to reflect positively on these events, as well as provide them with a safe environment to share their thoughts, feelings, and fears.
UConn participants of Cope are paired with K-4th grade students whom they will mentor and actively work with throughout the semester, taking a genuine interest in the student's life and being an enthusiastic role model.
Where and When: Cope meets every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11:15am-1:30pm. Participants are expected to volunteer their time for at least one day a week (you can volunteer for more than one day, if you would like!), and commit to it throughout the semester. Cope visits three elementary schools in the Mansfield, CT area: Vinton, Goodwin and Southeast Elementary School. Transportation is provided.
Who: We are looking for any undergraduate student who has an interest or passion in working with young children. No prior experience or training is necessary.
