The University of Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Concert. Harvey Felder, Conductor. 8PM von der Mehden Recital Hall.
To celebrate the end of midterms, come to the von der Mehden Recital Hall to experience a grand performance of classical music. The orchestra will open with Giacomo Meyerbeer’s sarcastic and humorous Coronation March from his opera “The Prophet”. Next, the audience will be offered an opportunity to be immersed in the serenity and reflection of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B Minor D. 759. Once that is completed, Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv will take the stage to perform Tchaikovsky's powerful concerto for violin, op. 35, in D Major accompanied by the UConn Symphony. To end the night, the entire orchestra will return for the Storrs premier of United Artists by UConn professor of composition Dr. Kenneth Fuchs. The performance will be held at the von der Mehden Recital Hall, 875 Coventry Rd., Storrs on October 18th. General admission is $10. Students and children are free. Plenty of free, well-lit parking across the street.
