During this winter session study abroad program, students will earn 6 credits in 3 weeks while exploring Latin American economic development and links between human rights and economic development with a focus on Costa Rica. Coursework will extend beyond the classroom to include excursions to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Indigenous Communities, Cooperatives, a Migrant Community, a Coffee Estate, and Manuel Antonio National Park and include discussions facilitated by local experts. Participants will also study Spanish language or in the case of fluent Spanish speakers Spanish literature and history. No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.
The program is housed at the Intercultura Spanish Language School in Heredia for two weeks and its Samara Beach campus for one week. This study abroad program can count toward 3 credits of upper division major or minor requirements for Economics or Human Rights or up to 6 credits for Latin American Studies or Spanish.
