MCB 3895‑012: Applied Techniques in Molecular Biology

Interested in research but not sure where to start? This introductory, hands‑on course teaches the core techniques used in molecular biotechnology labs: DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning workflows, minipreps, and Sanger sequencing. No lab experience required.

You’ll learn by doing: one weekly 3‑hour lab sessions, collaborative experiments, and guided practice interpreting protocols and operating equipment. The course also builds professional skills like lab notebook documentation, project management, and scientific communication. A great first step for students seeking research experience, biotech internships, or preparation for advanced study.
