Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteers Needed: Middle School LEGO Robotics

UConn FIRST and the Tolland County Robotics Foundation will be running 6 FLL Challenge (middle school robotics teams) in Fall 2026, including 2 teams on UConn's campus! This program is open to students in grades 5th-8th for the 2026-27 school year. More information can be found on our website here: tcrobotics.org/fll-challenge.

We are looking for volunteer mentors for this program. The FLL teams meet two days a week, for 2.5-3 hours each. Mentors will attend a 4-5 hour training course on a weekend before the season starts to become familiar with the curriculum, material, and coding. Mentors are expected to commit to attending 1–2 meetings per week on a consistent basis. To run these teams, we rely on volunteer mentors who give their time to make these programs possible. If you're interested in being a mentor for fall 2026, please complete the following interest form and we'll contact you with additional information: forms.gle/pVucGt2inVLDJL846

FIRST LEGO League Challenge: Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering—building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. They also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

Tolland County Robotics Foundation: The Tolland County Robotics Foundation is a nonprofit that inspires K-12 students to be leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based robotics programs that foster well-rounded life capabilities including teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership.
