The UConn Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group is an American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM)-affiliated organization that is active at the medical school and grad/undergrad levels, advancing holistic, nutrition-informed, and preventative lifestyle approaches to patient care and public health through education, service, research and partnership with the medical school and UConn Department of Nutritional Sciences. We offer the unique opportunity for undergraduate students to work side by side with advisors who are medical school students and faculty from the Nutritional Sciences department. The club integrates evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine practices and offers valuable networking and hands-on learning opportunities for students in Nutritional Sciences, especially in the pre-medical profession track. Moreover, we focus on healthcare disparities such as food insecurity–students will be able to work with underserved populations and engage with these pressing issues. In past events, we have volunteered regularly at community events in Hartford with medical school students, traveled to UConn Health to connect with graduate students, hosted lecture series featuring faculty in the Nutritional Sciences department, and hosted cooking and wellness events for the undergraduate student body. Next school year, we are planning to focus on research and lifestyle medicine-based interventions that can improve the health and wellness of UConn students. We are looking to fill three open E-Board spots, including Treasurer, Social Media Coordinator, and Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator. We are looking for students who have an interest in lifestyle medicine and related subjects like nutrition, exercise science, and mental health issues.
Fill out this form if you are interested in joining our E-Board! Or, if you are interested in joining the club and not applying for an e-board position, just fill out the fields with your name and email to be added to our UConntact.
