Brief biography: Zach Harvanek is an Assistant Professor and board-certified Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist at Yale. He completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University before earning both his medical and doctoral degrees at the University of Michigan, where he completed his dissertation in Dr. Scott Pletcher’s lab examining how social context influences aging in fruit flies. Zach then moved to Yale for his Psychiatry residency and fellowship, focusing on the interplay between mental health and physical health. His current research, conducted with Drs. Rajita Sinha and Ke Xu, investigates biological mechanisms through which stress, resilience, and social factors shape long-term outcomes, including obesity, metabolic health, and epigenetic aging. His work aims to bridge psychiatry, aging biology, and social determinants to inform interventions that promote resilience and healthy aging.
