  • Korean Diction for Singing Volunteer Workshop

Yoonjeong Yoo-Fox, a DMA candidate in the Voice Department, invites you to join the Korean Diction for Singing workshop, a unique, non-credit opportunity to broaden your singing skills in Korean pronunciation, diction, and musical interpretation.

This volunteer workshop is part of Yoonjeong Yoo-Fox’s DMA dissertation research. Participation is completely optional, and you may withdraw from the project at any time without penalty.

    Workshop Structure:

    ·         Weeks 1–6 – Asynchronous learning through HuskyCT (Blackboard), focusing on Korean pronunciation, reading Hangul (Korean alphabet), and diction rules. This phase will include learning activities in HuskyCT. Each participant will also have a short individual WebEx meeting each week for personalized feedback and practice.

    ·         Weeks 7–10 – Individual coaching sessions on assigned Korean art song repertoire.

    ·         Final Concert(5/7 6PM) – Culminating performance in Room TBD, where volunteer participants will present one Korean art song.

Time Commitment: Participants should expect to spend approximately 3–4 hours per week on workshop activities, including asynchronous learning, individual meetings, assignments, and practice time.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to read and write Hangul, accurately pronounce Korean using IPA, and confidently sing in Korean.

    Potential Risks:
     A) This is a vocal training workshop. Proper vocal singing techniques will be taught by the researcher (Yoonjeong Yoo-Fox) under the supervision of Dr. Rock to minimize any risk of vocal strain.
     B) While no course grades will be assigned, your learning activities will be recorded for research purposes. All recordings will be audio only (no visual data) and will be de-identified for analysis. Audio recordings will be securely stored and destroyed after the research is completed.
