Weekly Updates With The Office of Sustainability
Monday, February 23, 2026 - Sunday, March 1, 2026
Upcoming Events... Don’t miss out!
Recyclethon: compete against other residence halls to see who has the best recycling practices… for a prize! The event runs the entire month of February, starting on the 1st.
Sewing Workshop Part 2: Unable to attend the last sewing workshop? No problem! Practice sewing and embroidery techniques while creating your own personalized coasters or bookmarks at Old Buckley Dining Hall from 6:30 - 9:00 pm on February 26!
Black History Month x Sustainability: engage in thoughtful discussion and enjoy free food with friends while watching the documentary, There’s Something In The Water, which explores environmental racism, and its impact on black communities, on February 26 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the Seminar Room at Busby Suites!
Fun Fact: A leaky hot water faucet can add up to 165 gallons of water waste in just a month! At UConn, we strive to conserve as much water as possible, so if you see a leak, submit a request to facilities operations or call 860-486-3113. Let’s work together to keep our campus green!
Reason to Smile: Desertification of our natural landscapes is a worldwide issue, but China has pioneered a new and creative way to not only enhance vegetation, but also provide sustainable energy and support locals! Eco-pastures are solar farms that promote vegetation growth while providing enough spacing in between rows for sheep herds to graze. Local herders can graze their sheep in these photovoltaic parks completely for free from June through October every year. This integrated practice is known as solar grazing, and could be a solution to desertification, energy demands, and collapsing local economies worldwide. Read more here on the Happy Eco News website!
Joke of the Week: What did the tree wear to the pool party? SWIMMING TRUNKS!
