Fun Fact: Did you know Americans throw away 25 trillion Styrofoam cups every year? Unfortunately, styrofoam cups were popularized in the late 1950s and early 1960s for their ability to retain heat, easy accessibility, and ability to be mass produced. Styrofoam is not biodegradable and strongly contributes to pollution. Instead, use reusable water bottles and cups meant for hot liquids such as ones made of stainless steel! If there is no way to avoid the reusable cup, it is recommended to go with a more biodegradable option such as paper.

Reason to Smile: Due to climate change and other environmental threats, we have seen the collapse of specific species and precious environments, but certain species are still fighting and showing positive signs! Read about some species such as the Eurasian Otter and North Atlantic Right Whale that are giving us hope for biodiversity and wildlife recovery!

CT Sustainable News: It is common New England tradition to burn wood throughout Winter to keep families warm, but DEEP urges CT residents to use “best burn” practices to avoid environmental and personal harm. Read this quick article to refresh your knowledge of how to burn wood safely and efficiently!

Joke of the Week: What did the wind turbine say when asked what they thought about sustainable energy? I’m a HUGE FAN!
