  • 1/20 FINA 1001: Earthtones with William O'Hare

The Earthtones Vocal Ensemble will explore the rich repertoire of Irish Traditional song, under the leadership of guest director William O’Hare. Songs of ethnic identity, political freedom, emigration, and nostalgia will be learned through oral transmission, and performed in traditional settings in both solo and ensemble arrangements. Singing styles will include laments, ballads, lilting, sean nos (Irish language) and sea chanteys.

William O’Hare has been performing Irish music in Southern New England for 25 years and is a principle musician for Old Sturbridge Village. He is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Three Rivers Community College where he teaches courses in ethnomusicology and cultural anthropology.

We are very excited to have Mr. O’Hare, as it is a treat to have him share his knowledge and experiences with us. This is an amazing opportunity for the UConn community, and we are encouraging as many students to join us in the course. If you are interested, go ahead and register for the course: FINA 1001, which is held every Tuesday evening from 6-9pm in the Music Building, room 103 or make contact with Jillian Dicks to make arrangements.

We look forward to your participation!
