Volunteer at Holy Family Shelter Next Semester
Holy Family Home and Shelter in Willimantic provides a safe and stable place for families experiencing homelessness, most often women and children. Families stay for about one to two months while working toward long term stability, and the shelter provides meals, housing support, employment resources, and educational services.
Our volunteer team runs an after school program for the children living at the shelter. Volunteers help create a safe and supportive space where kids can relax, play, and get homework help while parents have time to focus on appointments and personal needs.
Activities include homework support, arts and crafts, outdoor games, movie nights, seasonal projects, cookie decorating, pumpkin carving, spa afternoons, and other creative ideas that help the kids feel cared for and connected.
Volunteering at Holy Family offers a meaningful way to make a direct impact on families in our community, gain experience working with children, and be part of a compassionate team of UConn students who care about service.
Students commit to one weekly shift on one of the following days:
Monday from 3:00PM-5:00PM
Wednesday from 6:00PM-8:00PM
Friday from 3:00PM-5:00PM
Transportation is provided to and from the shelter.
