  • GERM 3251 German Culture Across Time (TOI 2)

    GERM 3251 German Culture Across Time provides an overview of major periods in the cultural history of Germany and Central Europe from the Middle Ages to the present. The course showcases the diversity of cultural production, explains major historical developments, and highlights the historical relationship between Germany and the United States and specific Germans and Americans.

    Course topics include musical, artistic, and literary developments from the Middle Ages to the present, a focus on the history of women’s rights and human rights throughout German history, German Jewish history, the prelude to and impact of the World Wars and the Holocaust, divided Germany and its reunification, the history of LGBTQ+ rights in Germany and its relation to the LGBTQ+ movement in the U.S., migration to and from Europe, and the framework of the European Union within the global context.

    This course counts for TOI 2 and Gen Ed Content Area 1 E / Content Area 4 INT.
