The University of Connecticut Office of Early College Programs (OECP) has an opening for a UConn student interested in making Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and Adobe PDF files accessible (document remediation) as well as checking our websites for accessibility. This position is available throughout the summer (~20 hours/ week) and academic year (~10 hours/ week). Remediation responsibilities include creating headers, adding metadata, adding alternate text to images in Word, PowerPoint and PDFs, in addition to editing content tags for PDFs. The student worker will occasionally need to adjust color contrast in the documents. The preferred candidate must have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, consistent communication, and the ability to work independently and diligently. Candidates will be trained in document accessibility (Word, PowerPoint, and PDF) after hire.
UConn OECP consists of UConn Early College Experience (ECE), UConn Pre-College Summer (PCS), and UConn Dual Enrollment. UConn ECE (ece.uconn.edu) is a concurrent enrollment program that partners with 200 Connecticut high schools, offering UConn courses at the high schools to high school students, for UConn credit. Over 1,500 high school instructors are certified through UConn academic departments to teach one or more of over 100 UConn courses. UConn ECE serves more than 20,000 students annually. UConn PCS is a residential opportunity for high school students to experience college in one or multiple one-week sessions during the 4-5 week season.
