STORRS, CT — On Saturday, May 3rd, audiences are invited to experience do we
look FINE, a bold and emotionally resonant solo show from multidisciplinary artist,
activist, and researcher Ebonie Marie. Written, directed, and performed by
Marie, this 60-minute theatrical presentation is a raw blend of comedic satire,
poetry, and storytelling—confronting the systemic barriers that BIPOC artists face
in predominantly white higher ed fine arts programs.
Presented as the capstone performance for her MA Acting degree, do we look
FINE is, in her words, “the solo show they never should’ve asked for.” It serves as
both protest and poetry.
Ebonie Marie manages to create a safe space for healing and truth-telling,
while simultaneously challenging audiences to reckon with how racial inequity
continues to shape the arts and higher education.
