Trust in Artificial Intelligence: An Empirical Study of Trust Dynamics in AI Interactions
You have the chance to participate in a research study exploring how people interact with and trust artificial intelligence (AI) systems. This study aims to better understand how individual mental representations of AI affect their trust responses during AI interactions. Your participation will help advance our understanding of human-AI interaction dynamics.
Participants will wear a non-invasive wrist device (similar to a smartwatch) that measures physiological responses while reviewing AI-generated responses in various scenarios. You will be asked to evaluate your trust in these responses and complete brief questionnaires about your experience. The study requires one visit to Bromwell Room 123 on the UConn campus and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Compensation will be provided upon full completion of the study in the form of $20.00 preloaded debit card.
To be eligible for participation, you must be a UConn student aged 18-35, currently enrolled or recently graduated (within 2 years), and proficient in English. You cannot participate if you have professional experience in AI development, a diagnosed anxiety disorder, are currently using medications affecting the autonomic nervous system, or have skin sensitivity that would prevent wearing the device. Participants should maintain a regular sleep schedule and avoid unusual amounts of caffeine, alcohol, or other substances for 24 hours before the study.
