The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Connecticut is seeking adults (>18 years old) of any age/race/ethnicity/gender to test out a new headset/tablet system designed to help people use hearing protector earplugs effectively. In this pilot study, you will take hearing tests with and without earplugs and then fill out a brief questionnaire about your experience. You do not need to have normal hearing to participate; however, participants must have no history of ear surgery and no past or present use of hearing aids or cochlear implants.
The study will take place in Phillips 144 on the Storrs campus. A single visit of approximately 1 to 1.25 hours is required. You will be compensated $12/hour for your time.
Benefits of participating:
- Information about your hearing ability
- Instruction on how to wear earplugs properly to protect your ears from loud noise
- You can keep any of the earplugs you are tested with
- Potential societal benefits include helping workers in noisy jobs to protect their own hearing
