  • Reminder: Deadline to File Tax Return is 4/15/2025

    Dear International Huskies,

As a reminder, April 15 is the deadline to file your 2024 tax return if you worked in 2024.  UConn has two different options to support nonresident alien tax filers.

Option 1 – Schedule an Appointment with UConn VITA.  There are still a lot of appointments available for this week and next week.  Do not wait to schedule as VITA needs to review your submission before finalizing and confirming your appointment.

      • Step One – Schedule your appointment here: https://accounting.business.uconn.edu/vita-program/
      • Step Two – Submit the online Client Intake Form: https://vita.business.uconn.edu/vita-appointment-intake-form/
      • Step Three  - Gather PAPER copies of the following documents. VITA requires physical copies of the following documents not just electronic versions.
        • Passport or driver’s license
        • Original SSN card or ITIN letter
        • Bank account and Bank Routing Numbers
        • All Forms W-2 from your employer(s) – get this from UConn ess.uconn.edu
        • All Forms 1042-S from UConn.
          • Search your email for a message from taxcompliance@uconn.edu to see if you are getting a 1042-S for Scholarship/Fellowship income and email them if you have not yet received the paper form.
          • Wage income subject to tax treaty, please see our "How do I know if I'm getting a Form 1042-S" website to determine if you need to wait for this form.
        • Copies of all 2024 fee bills (Spring, Summer, Fall) please see this guidance for accessing and downloading your fee bills.
        • Dates of U.S. travel for all years.  You can access your Travel History here.  Enter your I-94 information and then click “View Traveler’s Travel History.”

Option 2 – Email international@uconn.edu and request a Sprintax discount code from the ISSS.  Login to https://www.sprintax.com/ to create an account and file your 2024 tax return. Use the Sprintax instructions and guides from the ISSS email to help you.

Students with no income from 2024 need to file just the form 8843.  If you are on Storrs Campus, come to the CISS and we can help you to fill out an mail the form to the IRS.  Students at regional campuses can follow these instructions: https://accounting.business.uconn.edu/vita-program/form-8843-filing-instructions/

    Best,
