  • 4/4 ECOM Speaker Series: Matthew Chrisman

Join ECOM (Expression, Communication, and Origins of Meaning) for a talk by Prof. Matthew Chrisman from the University of Edinburgh titled “Transparency and Sociality of Belief” on April 4 from 4:00–5:30 PM in McHugh Hall (MCHU 106). Chrisman will explore the idea that belief transparency—and our self-knowledge of beliefs—stems not from internal norms alone, but from the social role beliefs play in shared reasoning. He argues that to believe something transparently is to be ready to offer it in collective deliberation. The event will be held in a hybrid format, with a Zoom link shared the day before.
