2/19 Psychology Colloquium: Dr. Alexandra Paxton

Please mark your calendars for the psychology colloquium on Wednesday, February 19th at 3:30pm. Please join us at BOUS A106 as we welcome our very own Dr. Alexandra Paxton, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Paxton will be presenting her work titled “Inextricably Linked: Social Interaction as a Nonlinear Dynamical System.” Your participation and insights would be greatly valued.

Abstract: Humans tend to see ourselves as separate (or at least separable) from one another and our environments. Work like mine challenges this view, calling instead for us to see ourselves as deeply interconnected in place, space, and time. Viewing social interaction as a nonlinear dynamical system allows us to examine how our conversation partners, interaction context, and prior experiences shape our unfolding patterns of behavior, cognition, and emotion. From the theoretical perspective of social ecological psychology, my work argues for the reality of our interdependence on one another, our communities, and our environment.
