Experiential Global Learning is offering an opportunity for students interested in the German language to enroll in the Tandem Program during the Spring 2025 semester. The Tandem Program pairs you with a German student who is interested in studying abroad in Connecticut in a language and culture exchange.
Students enrolled in the Tandem Program will participate in a kick-off meeting on January 22nd to meet their tandem partner. For the duration of the semester you and your partner will meet virtually weekly (you decide the time) for an hour to share what life is like in Connecticut, learn what life is like in Germany and practice English and German. The participating German students have high English proficiency so if you are at the beginning of honing your German skills you should be okay.
Students can participate for GERM credit, or as volunteers. Students will be required to turn in a weekly reflection confirming that you met with your partner and what you discussed. Conversation topics will be provided so you have a little structure as you get to know your partner. Students wishing to earn German credit for the program are able to via independent study, should you prefer to participate as a volunteer not for credit we welcome you to do so.
If you’re interested in enrolling in the Tandem Program please:
- Email ann.keim@uconn.edu with the following details:
- Share if you wish to receive German credit for the program, if so a permission number will be provided.
- Share if you wish to study abroad in Germany in the future, if so, note which university you’re most interested in, if possible, I will try to match you with a German student from that university so you can learn more about it!
- Put a hold on your calendar for January 22nd from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm for our kickoff! A WebEx link will be provided.
Please note students must register by January 17th to be paired with a partner.
