Title: From Healthspan to SkinspanTM: The Basic Tenets of Aging Skin Health

Dr. Saranya Wyles, MD, PhD is the Director of the NIH-funded Mayo Clinic Regenerative Dermatology and Skin Longevity Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is responsible for the planning and execution of the NIH-funded laboratory’s multifaceted preclinical and clinical programs focused on geriatric dermatology. Her primary objective as director is to design new 3D bioprinted skin aging and skin disease models to replace, reduce, and refine (3R) animal models in preclinical testing in alignment with FDA initiative.
Before joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. Wyles completed her Bachelor’s degree at Barnard College, Columbia University then pursued a research fellowship at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. Dr. Wyles received her M.D.-Ph.D. from Mayo Clinic with mentorship from Dr. Jim Kirkland. She then completed a Mayo Scholar fellowship with a focus on translational geroscience at Wake Forest Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Kirtchevsky. She has earned a national and international reputation for her diverse and unique expertise in aging skin health.
Dr. Wyles holds two U.S. patents on methods and materials to reduce scar formation and four U.S. patent-pending technologies for 3D skin bioprinting.
Dr. Wyles is the recipient of the NIA GEMSSTAR award for early-stage investigators. She was additionally selected as NIA Butler-Williams Scholar to advance gerontology research related to skin. This year, she was appointed as SenNet Associate Member, and Mayo Clinic Site Director for the Facility for Geroscience Analysis (FGA) as part of the Translational Geroscience Network. Her work was featured on NBC Today’s Show segment, What are zombie cells, and can they slow aging?
