Hi we are Coastal Cross Roads!
You are being asked to be a participant in a research study. If you choose to be in
the study, we will ask you to complete a survey. The survey will help transportation planners better support communities that may upfront the safety risks involved with road
flooding depending on their social circumstances, past experiences, existing knowledge,
and cultural identities. We specifically use this survey to identify communities that
depend on flood exposed roads that cross tidal waters and whose well-being would be
greatly impacted by road closures.
The purpose of the study is to establish the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, and practices
surrounding tidal road flooding that are held by coastal communities.
The main study procedures include completing a 15–30-minute survey consisting of
multiple-choice questions. The risks of the study are minimal such as discomfort from
answering survey questions, or risks of breach of confidential information.
There is no direct benefit to you from taking part in this study. However, information we
learn from the study results may help people in the future. You will receive no direct
benefit from participating in this study; however, there may be indirect benefits through
raising awareness about community safety on coastal roads. There is a possibility you
may benefit from future road and community improvement efforts because of these
survey findings.
You can skip any survey questions that you do not want to answer. Even if you start the
survey, you are not required to complete it. You can stop at any time. All your answers
will be confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside the research team. To
protect your confidentiality, we will not collect any information that directly identifies you.
Please do not include your name or other information that could be used to identify you
in the survey responses.
Your participation will include a survey and a Microsoft Forms page where you
can enter an email address for a $10 amazon gift card delivery if you are one of the
