Career, Internship & Fellowship

  • 5/14 Beyond the PhD: Career and Family Growth

Beyond the PhD is excited to welcome back Dr. Leia Shuhaibar. Dr. Shuhaibar obtained her PhD at the University of Connecticut where she investigated how luteinizing hormone regulates oocyte maturation in preparation for fertilization. She then conducted 2 years of postdoctoral fellowship training with Dr. Laurinda Jaffe translating her discoveries in ovarian follicles to bone physiology. In 2018, she was promoted to Research Assistant Professor at UCHC to develop an imaging system to better understand hormonal regulation of bone growth. Simultaneously, she accepted a Visiting Scientist position at the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services in Farmington to work as a clinical embryologist and help infertility patients grow their families. She has been invited to present her research at National and International Conferences. Currently, she is a Medical Science Liaison at Ferring Pharmaceuticals as a specialist in Reproductive Medicine and holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor position at UCHC. She lives in Houston, Texas, and enjoys spending time with her husband and her 7- and 4-year-old sons.

In celebration of Mothers in Science, join Dr. Shuhaibar to hear about her story of a scientific career and family growth. This seminar will be held on TODAY Tuesday, May 14th at 2PM and will be in hybrid format. Current UConn Health students, faculty, and staff are invited to join Dr. Shuhaibar in person in E5036 (Cell Biology Conference Room). All other attendees are welcome to join virtually on Zoom.
