    Position: Research Support Staff for Dr. Sukhmani Singh

    Start Date: May, 2024

    End Date: May 2025

    Salary: $20/hour

    Position Description:

    Research Assistant (Effort = 12-15 hours/week) will aid Dr. Singh in a variety of project tasks and activities including:

    • On-site data entry and database management once or twice a week at Glastonbury Court Support Services Division,
    • communications (meetings, emails) with research team, sponsoring agencies, IRB, etc.
    • conducting literature reviews,
    • writing for reports and publications, and
    • assisting in administrative tasks.

     

    Dr. Sukhmani Singh, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor. Her work focuses on systems change through the centering of the lived experiences of people/youth who have been impacted directly by the juvenile and criminal legal systems. Dr. Singh is a mixed-methods researcher with a deep commitment to critical Black feminist scholarly traditions. She is currently PI on multiple projects where she is engaged in critical participatory research with people who were formerly incarcerated to channel research as a way to engage in/conduct systems change. She was also appointed co-chair to the Gender Responsiveness Workgroup of the Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee (JJPOC), established to oversee the reform/transformation related to the juvenile justice system in Connecticut.

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    • BA, BS, or BSW in social work or related disciplines like psychology, sociology, public health
    • Ability to drive to on-site data extraction to the judicial branch at Glastonbury for a full day at least once a week and up to 2 times a week as project needs evolve
    • Current UCONN student
    • Current human subjects research certification
    • Scholarly writing competence and deep attention to detail as this project includes active data extraction
    • Comfort using Google Scholar and UConn library resources to conduct literature reviews
    • High level organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Ability to competently accept and incorporate feedback into work product

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Interest/experience in juvenile and criminal legal systems
    • Research experience of at least a semester
