  • CALL: Gender Identity Summer 2024 Grad Fellowship

The Wood/Raith Living Trust is named for Audrey Wood (UConn class of ‘47) and Edeltraut Raith. Both Wood and Raith earned their Masters in Library Science from the University of Southern California and spent their careers as librarians with the San Francisco Public Library system. They generously gifted the University of Connecticut funds for the study of gender identity under the Wood/Raith Living Trust.

To support UConn graduate students’ research efforts in gender-related activities, we invite graduate students, across all fields of study at UConn, to apply for summer research fellowships. For 2024, the Wood/Raith Living Trust will award up to 10 graduate fellowships at a maximum of $5,000 each. Over the past six years, we have funded 74 Wood/Raith graduate student scholars. We prioritize funding those students who don’t otherwise have summer support and are first-time awardees.

Students applying for this fellowship support must provide the following:

    1) An opening 100-word paragraph that contextualizes past teaching, research, and service activities that are gender-related.

    2) Edited 2-page maximum CV, including primarily gender-related activities that pertain to teaching, research, service, and funding (both internal and external).

    3) 425-word summary of specific gender identity research projects, written for a broad audience, including:

    a)      a concise overview of the project objectives, aims, and significance/contribution of the work,

    b)      a clear description of the methods used for the entire project,

    c)      a list of specific tasks planned during the grant period, and

    d)      a clear statement of relevance to the study of gender identity.

    4) A 75-word summary of the importance of the funding in accomplishing the goals, highlighting estimated research and living costs, as well as other anticipated summer support (including amount and source).

All application materials must be appended into one pdf document and submitted via the Application Form tab at the Wood/Raith Gender Identity Living Trust website.

Submission deadline is May 1, 2024 at 5:00 pm ET.

Awardees will be expected to submit a Final Report on the use of the Fellowship Award toward the end of the Spring 2025 semester.
