Special Events

  • Celebrate Preservation Week

Come celebrate Preservation Week with the Library's Conservation Lab on the Plaza Level of Homer Babbidge Library.
    • Look out for an exhibit in the West Entrance from April 1st to May 5th which explores the tools and materials used in the creation and conservation of books with a special focus on papers. Learn about the use of Japanese tissues in conservation treatments and paste and marbled papers used as decorative endsheets and covering material in books.
    • Speaking of marbled papers, the Digital Imaging Lab has created high-res images of marbled papers which can be downloaded at: s.uconn.edu/marbled . Use them as virtual backgrounds or print them out for art projects!
    • On April 17th and 18th from 1pm - 3pm, bring us your damaged paper-based items (books, documents, photographs, art on paper, letters, and/or small maps) and we'll talk about how you can preserve them! Please only bring what you can carry.
    • Join us from 1pm - 3pm on Wednesday April 17th as we re-sew a book and on Thursday April 18th when we'll be repairing a book with Japanese tissue.
