    Violence and Human Rights

    ANTH 3309

How has the human rights doctrine been shaped by mass violence in the twentieth century, and how does human rights continue to grapple with the problem of mass violence? We will explore this question across three specific problems - genocide, forced disappearence, and statelessness in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The class will engage with cases studies from around the world. Should be of interest to students of human rights, anthropology, political science, and sociology. Syllabus available upon request.
