  • Passing of UConn Student Jackson Carneiro

    We are sorry to share the news of the passing of UConn student Jackson Carneiro, who died unexpectedly on March 7, 2024.

     

    Jackson, was from Milford, Massachusetts and began his UConn career in the fall 2022 semester. He was a Digital Media Design Major in the School of Fine Arts.

     

    In his first year at UConn, Jackson was a member of the Innovation House Learning Community. As a DMD student, Jackson was focusing on 3D animation. Jackson was dedicated to the arts with a particular talent for illustration.

     

    Jackson’s family will hold a service to honor his life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 13 at 11 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 27 Pearl St. Milford, MA. The burial will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery on Cedar St. There are no calling hours.

     

    Condolences to the Carneiro family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit-4062, Storrs, Conn., 06269-4062.

    Student Health & Wellness Mental Health Services, 4th floor of Arjona is available to provide support to the students who may be struggling.  To make an appointment with SHaW-Mental Health call 860-486-4705 or schedule an appointment online. Students who need to talk to someone after hours can engage with BeWell@UConn which offers free and confidential mental health support 24/7/365 by calling (833) 308-3040. In addition, information about managing grief is located on the SHaW-Mental Health website.  If you need help more immediately, resources can be accessed here

     

    Dean of Students Office - At any point in time please remember that the staff in the Dean of Students are here for you. Located in room 203, Wilbur Cross we are available to help students navigate difficult experiences. You can stop by during drop-in hours, Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 1pm-3pm, Thursdays from 9am – 11:30am and Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm in the Cultural Centers, no appointment needed at those times. If you prefer an appointment, call 860-486-3426 to request a meeting with an Assistant Dean. 

     

    Please remember that as a university community we’re here for each other. The loss of a community member is extremely difficult, and our deepest sympathy goes out to Jackson’s family, and friends during this time.
