  • Student Assistant Position with IMRP

    Job Description

    The Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP) at UConn is seeking to hire a dynamic and highly organized student assistant to support its Children with Incarcerated Parents (CIP) Initiative for the remainder of this academic year. The student assistant will assist the CIP Initiative’s Project Manager with the Initiative’s major programs. This position will be primarily onsite with remote opportunities and may be extended throughout summer or resumed in fall. The IMRP is located at the University of Connecticut Hartford Campus (10 Prospect St. Hartford, CT 06103)

    Summary of Duties & Responsibilities

    The responsibilities for this role will include:

    • Assist with planning and hosting community engagement initiatives such as a community event for Hartford area children with incarcerated parents and their families.
    • Monitor legislative activities and proposed bills during this session.
    • Assist with drafting testimony and/or fact sheets to educate legislators as they consider proposals.
    • Assist with building training content for DOC training – gender issues, how to train correctional professionals.
    • Assist with social media – building engagement with the Initiative’s caregiver page on Facebook.
    • Assist with creating child-friendly visiting spaces at CT correctional facilities. 
    • Consider marketing strategies to increase awareness of the UConn CIP Scholarship with the goal of increasing the number of applicants next year.
    • Assist with the Initiative’s UConn Gives annual campaign.
    • Build content for discipline-specific guides to support CIP (law enforcement, corrections, education, healthcare, housing, etc.).
    • Search and potentially apply to grant opportunities.
    • Assist with editing the Family Reentry Workbook.
    • In an on-going basis, collect information to be included in the annual report of activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Job requirements

    • Excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, Canva, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
    • Ability to work independently, simultaneously track multiple projects, pay attention to detail, and stay organized
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
    • Meet deadlines and work under pressure in a dynamic office environment.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    Hours and Hourly Rate

    • 10-15 hours per week
    • Class IV (Advanced level) - $19.09
