  • Athletes Wanted for Prospective Injury Risk Assess

PARTICIPANTS WANTED for a prospective research study that examines how muscle structure and stiffness differ between those who do and do not experience hamstring injuries. This study is being conducted by the University of Connecticut’s Sports Optimization & Rehabilitation Laboratory in the department of Kinesiology & Members of the UConn Institute of Sports Medicine.

WHO CAN TAKE PART? Competitive athletes of any level (high-school, club, collegiate, or professional) who are 18-45 years old and train for at least 5 hours in season regardless of previous injury history.

WHAT DOES THE STUDY ENTAIL? During a single visit to the testing center, participants will have body composition (% body fat) and the structure and stiffness, and their hamstring muscles measured using ultrasound. In addition to these athletes will complete an online survey of their sports and sports injury history and be asked to keep a sports training / injury log for up to 1 year. The total time commitment of this study is ~2 hours. As a prospective injury study, this will allow us to see if those who get injured had a different hamstring structure than those who did not.

ARE THERE ANY INCENTIVES? All participants who complete at least 10 weeks of training logs will receive a $5 Dunkin Doughnuts.
