  • 12/11 Digital Media Design MFA Open Studio Dec 11

    The event:

The MFA Open Studios are scheduled for Monday, December 11 from 2-5pm. We will do a potluck and have snacks again for all to enjoy!

    What is an “open studio”?

An open studio is an event where you (the artist) showcase the work you’ve created during your time here in the MFA program or what you are currently working on. This work does not need to be related to your MFA thesis. You can also showcase assignments from a class or work that you have created on your own. Showcasing a thesis work-in-progress is a great way for 3rd year students to audition their project before the final showcase.

This should not be a formal PowerPoint presentation. Imagine someone walking into an artist’s studio and seeing all of the work - in progress, sketches, wet canvases, everything, not only polished work - as a way to start conversations and share ideas. We therefore encourage you to think about the best way to present your work both inside and outside of a screen. If you are a filmmaker, consider showing storyboards or scripts for your projects. If you are a UX/UI designer, consider showing the initial sketches for your app in addition to your prototype. Maybe you even need multiple screens, projection, or a touch screen… it’s up to you!

Each MFA student will have a “studio” set up on the first floor of Bishop. Faculty and students will then be welcomed to stop by your studio and view your work. You should be prepared to talk about your work and ideas for future work as faculty interact with you in your studio.
