  • Become A Campus Change Peer Mentor

    Campus Change Peer Mentors Wanted! 

    Seeking students who began their UConn career at a regional campus to act as mentors for upcoming campus change students. 

     

    Description: 

    Going from a regional campus to Storrs is challenging. As a peer mentor, you will participate in the FIRST (Fostering Ideal Regional Student Transitions) program. This is an opportunity to make an impact in the life of incoming regional campus students! Peer mentors will moderate an asynchronous course for upcoming campus change students, host virtual panel discussions, meet & greets, organize and participate in an in-person Storrs campus tours as part of an effort to unite and integrate regional students to the Storrs community before they arrive. 

    Requirements: Undergraduate students who have spent minimum two full-time in-person semesters at one of the four regional campuses (Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, Avery Point) and whose home campus has been Storrs in-person for at least one semester by the start of the Spring 2024 semester. Peer Mentors must commit to an in-person meeting at Storrs every Wednesday from 3:00-4:00pm for the Spring 2024 semester for programmatic training.  

    Peer mentors will be responsible for creating video content for asynchronous online TYE: Transition Year Experience course; moderating and interacting with up to 16 mentees in TYE course; hosting virtual panel discussions; offering shadow days; and co-hosting an all-day Storrs event for mentees (date TBD).   

     

    Details: up to 5 hours/week, $18/hour for Spring 2024 semester; includes paid training and team building prior to mentee interactions. All university majors and regional campus origins welcome.  

     

    Skills Needed: Self-motivated, ability to work independently, comfortable filming and speaking in front of a camera, good verbal communication and desire to engage with people. 

     

    If Interested: Film a video, no longer than 3 minutes, in response to the following prompt: Imagine you are introducing yourself to your mentees for the first time!!

    ● What personality traits will make you an excellent mentor?  

    ● Describe your transition to Storrs in one word. Why? 

    ● What is one piece of advice you would give to your past self that would have made the transition to Storrs better?

    Deadline: All videos must be submitted by October 30, 2023, one week after registration for Spring 2024 begins. This will allow you to verify you can attend the required Wednesday meetings.
