Lecture by internationally renowned artist and photographer Ellen Carey.

Ellen Carey is an educator (Associate Professor of Photography at the Hartford Art School), independent scholar, guest curator, photographer and lens-based artist, whose unique experimental work spans five decades. In 1983, The Polaroid Artists Support Program invited her to work at the Polaroid 20 X 24 Studio. She has worked in a variety of cameras and formats: Polaroid SX-70 and Polaroid PN film; black/white to color; 35mm, medium, and large format, and her experimental images engage a range of genres and themes. Carey’s work has been featured in hundreds of group exhibitions in museums, alternative spaces, university and college galleries, non-profits, and commercial venues; highlighted in the permanent collections of over 60 photography and art museums; and her work has been the subject of more than 55 one-person exhibitions.
In 2018, she was named to the Royal Photographic Society’s Hundred Heroines, a global initiative honoring the top women in photography from around the world.
