  • Hiring - The Daily Campus Production Roles

    The Daily Campus is currently hiring for roles on our production and circulation teams! See the available jobs below:

    Production: 

    • Copy editors: 
      • Job Description (link to full job description here): The Daily Campus is UConn’s independent, student-run newspaper. The production team is looking to hire new copy editors for the Fall 2023 semester. Applicants should be looking to develop skills on the job, and work as part of a team. The job entails:

        • Reading through all articles submitted for The Daily Campus publication one night a week, checking for AP style, grammar mistakes and overall clarity

        • Editing captions, headlines, datelines, mastheads and any other text found on a newspaper page

        • Attending monthly meetings to discuss issues, improvements, changes to workflow and learn new material (typically Sunday afternoons)

        • Working in a sometimes loud and chaotic newsroom, and still being able to focus on the project at hand

        • Working either a 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. shift OR an 8 p.m. shift that ends sometime between midnight and 1 a.m., depending on when pages finish

        • Attending a training session before classes start in the fall (between August 20th and 28th)

        • Compensation: $15/hour

    • Designers: 
      • Job Description (link to full job description here): The Daily Campus is UConn’s independent, student-run newspaper. The production team is looking for new designers to work from 6 p.m. to around midnight for the Fall 2023 semester. The job entails:

        • Using InDesign to arrange headlines, subheads, articles, images, graphics and other elements creatively and professionally 

        • Attending monthly meetings to discuss issues, improvements, changes to workflow and learn new material (typically in the afternoon on Sundays)

        • Attending one training session before classes start to get acquainted with InDesign and the general workflow of design (between August 20th and 28th)

        • Coordinating with copy editors and editors on content

        • This job must be done in-person

        • Compensation: $15/hour

Your sample design can be made digitally, or can be sketched out on paper, but should resemble an example page of a newspaper.     • Digital Producers: 
      • Job Description (link to full job description here): The Daily Campus is UConn’s independent, student-run newspaper. The digital team is looking to hire new digital producers for the fall semester. The job entails:

        • Uploading articles to The Daily Campus website during production (8 p.m. to finish, typically around 11 pm. Note: You may have to stay later depending on when stories come in)

        • Develop interactive web pages to enhance reader experience

        • Compensation: $15/hour

    • Photo producers: 
      • Job Description (link to full job description here): The Daily Campus is UConn’s independent, student-run newspaper. The production team is looking to hire new photo producers for the Fall 2023 semester. Applicants should be looking to develop skills on the job, and work as part of a team. The job entails:

        • Searching The Daily Campus photo archives and choosing appropriate photos to correspond with stories in the print and digital publications

        • Editing chosen photos to fit the dimensions that designers and digital producers request (experience using Photoshop is not required but general photography editing/composition/design knowledge is preferred)

        • Communicating well with designers, digital producers, and editors to meet the visual needs of the paper

        • Ability to work in a loud environment, and still being able to focus on the project at hand

        • Working approximately 8p.m. to about midnight once a week (Sun-Thurs)

        • Compensation: $15/hour

    Circulation: 
    • Delivery drivers:
      • Job Description (link to full job description here): Are you a morning person looking for some on campus work? Look no further! UConn’s student run newspaper, The Daily Campus, is looking to hire new Delivery Drivers  for the 2023-2024 academic year, with potential to come back the following Fall in 2024
        • Duties & Responsibilities:
        • Deliver papers around campus on 1 of 3 potential designated routes, two to three mornings a week
        • Routes are from Monday-Friday. 
        • Pickup/Start route anytime before 7AM, with 7AM being the last time to pick-up papers.
        • Complete delivery anytime between 6-8:30AM. No later than 9AM. 
        • Routes are planned as 1.5 hours long, but are often completed in less time.
        • “Clock-in” every morning in a binder at the Daily Campus office
        • Compensation: $17/hour
