  • UConn Avery Point UB/ConnCAP Tutors Wanted

    UConn Avery Point Upward Bound/ConnCAP English, Math & Science Tutor(s)

    Upward Bound/ConnCAP (Connecticut Collegiate Awareness & Preparation Program) is searching for a UB/ConnCAP Enrichment ENGLISH, MATH & SCIENCE Tutor to assist 10th - 12th grade students at Norwich Free Academy located at 305 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.

    The tutor will be providing homework help and engaging students with fun, interactive enrichment, and literacy activities. UB/ConnCAP Enrichment Tutor should be well-rounded and willing to work with a diverse range of cultures, nationalities, and backgrounds. The UB/ConnCAP tutor is responsible for leading small group support for students to help them better understand homework concepts and provide support with assignments. Their duties include helping with study strategies, note taking, key concepts, and review classroom assignments.

    In addition, UB/ConnCAP Enrichment Tutor should possess the following attributes and skills:

    · Assist students with homework, projects, SAT prep, papers, and other academic tasks

    · Ability to establish and maintain rapport with students fostering safe space and encouragement

    · Help students discover weaknesses, strengths, and points of interest

    · Ability to communicate orally and written

    · Ability to work weekends for pre-scheduled academic/social enrichment events and workshops

    · Provide positive support and encouragement

    · Ability to use ethical practices for confidential communication about students

     

    Special skills preferred:

    · Demonstrate strong academic performance in English/Literature, S.T.E.M. (Science,Technology, Engineering, Math) or linguistics (English and/or Spanish)

    · Available Tuesday and Thursday 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm starting September

    · Tutors must provide their own transportation to and from worksites
