  • BUBBLES of Fun in the CAP Lab: New Infant Research

The CAP Lab in the Psychological Sciences Department at UConn Waterbury Campus is actively recruiting families for a new research study called BUBBLES (Babies – Understanding Brain and Baseline Longitudinal EEG Study).  The study is focused on brain and behavior development during the first 4 years with a focus on emerging thinking and self-regulation skills.

This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is multi-site project with families participating UConn and Virginia Tech CAP Labs.  See our article in UConn Today!

What does participating in BUBBLES involve?

We invite you and your baby to visit us at the CAP Lab in UConn Waterbury to play various attention, thinking, and emotion games. As part of our longitudinal study, you would visit us when your infant is 6 months of age, with two lab visits per year (every 6 months) until 4 years of age, for a total of 8 visits. Visits to our research lab last 75 to 90 minutes.

During these visits, your child will play games with us while wearing a little sensor cap to collect brain-wave activity (EEG). You would complete online questionnaires before each visit. At each visit, you will receive $50 cash paid at the lab visit for pre-lab visit questionnaires (online) plus lab visit. There will be a $10 bonus gift card if all questionnaires are complete before the lab visit. Your child will also receive a lab souvenir (such as a bib or t-shirt with our lab logo), little prizes during our games (such small toys or stickers when they are older), and an official certificate of participation (perfect for framing!).

We offer flexible scheduling, plus free and convenient parking.  Of course, you will be with your infant at all times, and siblings, grandparents, etc. are welcome to come along as well.  No BUBBLES visit is complete without some dedicated time for bubble blowing and picture taking of our growing little scientists!

How do I find out more about BUBBLES?

We would love the chance to talk with you!  We are recruiting infants who were born full term, with no prenatal or birth complications.

Contact us at (203) 236-9933 or kidCAPlab@uconn.edu to hear more details. You can find us online (https://kidcaplab.uconn.edu/) and facebook.  Agreeing to talk with us over the phone does not obligate you to participate.

Come and be a part of the CAP Lab’s science family!
