  • Human Subjects Requested: Gait Research Study

    Payment Amount: $125.00

Purpose: To learn how individuals adopt new gait dynamics in response to altered gait patterns. To accomplish this goal, we will use an instrumented split-belt treadmill, 12 camera motion capture system, and wearable sensors to measure joint motion and muscle function during an asymmetric walking protocol.

Participant Restrictions: Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. We are currently only accepting participants that have undergone ACL reconstruction surgery in the past year. ACL reconstruction participants must have been cleared to return to walking and running activities by their physician. Participants will be excluded if they are unable to walk for extended periods of time.

Research Location: The research study will be conducted in the Human Performance Laboratory located in Gampel 104, in Gampel Pavilion on the UConn Storrs Campus.

Study Details: Participate in a research study conducted at the University of Connecticut’s Human Performance Laboratory in Gampel Pavilion to investigate how purposeful asymmetric walking could help restore healthy gait dynamics in post-ACL reconstruction individuals. Participants will perform two 2-hour asymmetric walking sessions a month apart to determine the optimal magnitude of the asymmetric walking between-limb gait speed difference.
