  • 4/17 Pushing Boundaries: UConn's First NBA Player

Join us on Monday, April 17th, 2023 for the screening of "Pushing Boundaries: UConn's First NBA Player", directed by Ronnie Forchheimer. This documentary tells the inspiring story of athlete and music executive Worthy Patterson. While at the University of Connecticut, Patterson was the first Black team captain in school history.

He then became the first UConn player in the NBA and one of the first Black players to integrate the 1957 St. Louis Hawks. This historical narrative chronicles Patterson’s achievements and life as a Black person navigating discrimination and racism before, during, and after the civil rights movement.

Before the screening, we will have a special introduction by the director himself. After the film, there will be a post-screening Q&A session where you can ask questions and learn more about the making of this incredible film.

This screening is presented by the Alumni House and the Department of Digital Media and Design (DMD). Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience this remarkable documentary and engage in a conversation with the director.
