Do You Need Direct Patient Care Experience? More Volunteering Hours?

Come Join Our Team & Become a Hospice Volunteer at Trinity Health of New England at Home Hospice!

    What is Hospice?
The purpose of hospice care is to make the patient feel as comfortable as possible in their last days of life. This includes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual comfort for the patient.

Why should you be a Hospice Volunteer?
On the path to becoming a healthcare provider, it’s inevitable that you will deal with a death of a patient. Becoming a Hospice Volunteer is a great way to learn strategies on how to cope with death and how to provide care to dying patients.

What does a Hospice Volunteer do?

Direct patient care volunteers spend time socializing with the patient and charting the patient’s condition while clerical volunteers do logistical tasks such as making comfort calls, writing donor letters, etc. Volunteers will often do both as Clerical work can be done remotely as well allowing for greater flexibility.

What are the requirements to become a Hospice Volunteer?

To be eligible to apply you MUST be 18 years or older, be COVID vaccinated and have a Driver’s License with a reliable means of transportation.

What does the application process entail?

    1. Complete an application
    2. Short Virtual Interview
    3. Go for an Occupational Health Check (aka Physical Exam).
    4. Complete an online Background Check
    5. Go get Fingerprinted State Troopers Office (we will tell you which one)
    6. Complete Online Hospice Volunteer Training
    7. Complete an in-person Orientation

This process usually takes 4-6 weeks, and sometimes even longer. I highly recommend that students who would like to volunteer in the summer begin their application process now so by the summer they can start visiting patients.

If you are interested, please contact me via email, call or text and we can begin the application process. I look forward to meeting our future Hospice Volunteers! 😊
