    Animal Care Technician – Equine

     

    This position is responsible for the daily care of all horses housed at the UConn Horse Units.

     

    Job Qualifications:

    • Ability to perform all daily tasks required for horse care independently
    • Ability to lift 50lbs
    • Have great team work skills
    • Make commitment to work at least 20 hrs a week for the summer
    • Have at least two recent years of documented (ie. riding lessons, previous jobs, volunteering, 4-H, pony club, etc.) horse or livestock experience
    • Share responsibilities of weekend and holiday shifts
    • Driver’s license

     

    ANSC 3681 Equine Training and Sales Internship

    This zero credit unpaid internship is designed to allow students to gain extensive hands-on experience with preparing horses of different ages, breeds, and training level for sale or to retain in our riding program. Students will learn how to evaluate and market these horses for a successful sale. Students will also work with young, unfinished, or horses returning from injury to develop well rounded multidisciplinary riding school horses.

    Pre-requisites:

    • Must be an intermediate or advanced rider
    • Instructor consent
