  • 2/27 Steam Shutdown - South Campus

As we continue with construction for the South Campus Residence Hall and the need to remove existing utilities within the site, we must test the existing water / steam valves to ensure proper operation, prior to removal.   In order to do this, we need to perform a brief steam shutdown (Approx 3hrs).  The shutdown is planned to occur in the early am on MONDAY FEB 27th, 2023.  A BEC List notification will also be issued with exact times.

The steam shutdown entails testing of existing valves that feed the water hydrant, which provides water to the Temporary Boilers that are currently providing steam to the following buildings:  Von Der Mahden,   Music,   Shippee,   Buckley , Music Library,   Drama Music and Nafe Katter Theatre,  Rosebrooks, Rome and Wilson Halls.

Once the valves are tested, they will remain open and water will flow into to the temporary boilers to provide steam.  It will take approximately 2hrs for the buildings to receive full steam.

Please NOTE:  This is the start to a series of future shutdowns that need to take place to continue with construction.  Notifications will continue to be issued via Daily Digest and the UCONN BEC List notifications.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
