SPAN 4200W -- A monographic course on the cultural production of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which was seen by many as a precursor to WWII. In this course we will analyze a wide array of texts including literature, film, posters, photography, music, and children drawings, among others. The course will include mostly Spanish authors and filmmakers, but we will cover also the works of international creators who had direct contact with the war, such as Danish filmmaker Joris Ivens, British writer George Orwell, and American writer Ernest Hemingway. This course meets once a week on Monday evening (4-7 pm).
