On Campus Job Opportunities

  • Campus Change Peer Mentors Wanted

Going from a regional campus to Storrs is challenging. We are looking for students who have made this transition and want to help future campus change students.  As a peer mentor, you will participate in the FIRST (Fostering Ideal Student Transitions) program through UConn’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS). This is an opportunity to make an impact in the life of incoming regional campus students!

Peer mentors will, among other things, moderate an  asynchronous course for upcoming campus change students, host virtual panel discussions and meet & greets, organize and participate in in-person campus tours as part of an effort to unite and integrate regional students to the Storrs community before they arrive.

Requirements: Undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS majors and programs  found here:  https://clas.uconn.edu/areas-of-study/). Spent minimum two full time on-person semesters at one of the four regional campuses (Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, Avery Point) and whose home campus has been Storrs in-person for at least one semester by the start of the Spring 2023 semester.

Details: up to 5 hours/week, $15/hour for Spring 2023 semester; includes paid training and team building prior to mentee interactions. Opportunity to continue at $15/hr with the program into Summer and Fall 2023 available.

Skills Needed: Self-motivated, ability to work independently, comfortable filming and speaking in front of a camera, good verbal communication and desire to engage with people.

If Interested:  Film a video in response to the following prompt:

Imagine you are introducing yourself to your mentees for the first time!!

    • Name, major, original campus, fun fact about you!

    • Please tell us about your transition to the Storrs campus with one piece of advice you wish you had prior to your own campus change.

    • What has inspired you to want to work with regional campus students?
