  • New History Course Spring 2023 Hartford Campus

In the spring of 2023 a new course offering on the Hartford Campus will be HIST 3105: History Through Film: The Cold War.  One of the course objectives is to introduce students to the history of the Cold War from its origins in 1917 until its apex in the early 1960s, as symbolized by the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis.  We will also discuss political ideologies and propaganda in this context.  Another important objective is to teach students how to “read” and analyze both feature and documentary films.  One of the major issues we will grapple with throughout the semester is the strengths and weaknesses of film as a medium for addressing historical themes.  We are going to view a broad selection of movies, including comedies and science fiction.
