Beyond the PhD is excited to welcome Dr. Tom Charlesworth, a Director of Portfolio Strategy at Cambridge Epigenetix in the UK. Dr. Charlesworth is a protein biochemist by training but decided by the end of his PhD that pipetting wasn’t for him. His PhD project was "blue sky" and he wanted to work in a space where science was applied in the real-world. Working in medical communications then at Wellcome managing their translational funding schemes opened his eyes to the possibilities in biotech. He spent some time collating a non-science skillset before joining Cambridge Epigenetix in 2018. His current role there as the Director of Portfolio Strategy keeps him close to the science whilst integrating other information sources to help formulate their product strategy. Dr. Charlesworth will be giving a virtual seminar about his career path on Tuesday, October 18th at 1PM ET. Registration for the event is free and is open to anybody interested.
