ConnCAP English, Math & Science Tutor(s)
UConn ConnCAP (Connecticut Collegiate Awareness & Preparation Program) is searching for a ConnCAP ENGLISH, MATH & SCIENCE Tutors to assist 10th - 12th grade students at Bulkeley High School and Hartford Public High School located in Hartford, CT.
The tutor will be providing homework help and engaging students in fun, interactive enrichment, and literacy activities. ConnCAP Tutors should be well-rounded and willing to work with a diverse group of high school students. The ConnCAP tutor is responsible for leading small group support for students to help them better understand homework concepts and provide support with assignments. Their duties include helping with study strategies, note taking, key concepts, and review classroom assignments.
In addition, ConnCAP Enrichment Tutors should possess the following attributes and skills:
- Assist students with homework, projects, SAT prep, papers, and other academic tasks
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with students fostering safe space and encouragement
- Help students discover weaknesses, strengths, and points of interest
- Ability to communicate orally and written
- Ability to work weekends for pre-scheduled academic/social enrichment events and workshops
- Provide positive support and encouragement
- Ability to use ethical practices for confidential communication about students
Special skills preferred:
- Junior standing or above
- Demonstrate strong academic performance in English/Literature, S.T.E.M. (Science,Technology, Engineering, Math) or linguistics (English and/or Spanish)
- Available to tutor Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday between the hours of 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm starting mid-late September
- Some Saturdays required (1x/bi-monthly)
- Tutors must provide their own transportation to and from worksites
