  • Master Plan Town Hall Meetings in April, 2014

The University has embarked on a year-long process to prepare a comprehensive Master Plan for the Storrs Campus.  The nationally recognized planning and design firm of Skidmore, Owings, Merrill (SOM) has been retained to work with the University to develop a 20 year plan for the campus.  A Master Plan Advisory Committee (MPAC) representing a wide range of interests on campus and in the community has been meeting monthly to discuss the early milestones including developing a Vision Statement, Goals and Objectives that will guide the rest of the planning work.  The initiative was kicked off in February and over the past several weeks a series of meetings was held with the MPAC and several working groups culminating in an assessment of the current conditions on the campus and a summary of planning issues that will be addressed in the next phases of the project as we look ahead to the future.

The second in a series of Town Hall meetings to engage the campus in the planning process will be held on Tuesday, April 29th from 3:00-4:00 in Konover Auditorium in the Dodd Center.  Another session covering the same presentation will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, from 1:30-2:30 also in Konover Auditorium.   At this “Master Plan Town Hall” the consultants will present several ‘big idea’ concepts for organizing the future development of the campus including ideas about new development areas as well as using existing facilities for their highest and best uses.  Time will be provided for questions from the audience.  We are encouraging anyone from the campus – faculty, staff and students – who may be interested in the long range development plans for the campus to attend one of the Town Hall meetings scheduled in April.  This will be the last opportunity this semester to see how the master plan is evolving and to participate in its early formative stages.  Many opportunities for participation will be planned for next Fall when the master plan consultants will be presenting a more refined draft Master Plan for campus comments.
