  • 8/2 Beyond the PhD: Research Geneticist

Beyond the PhD is excited to welcome Dr. Daniel Kick, a Research Geneticist for the USDA. Daniel is a former neurobiologist. His research has focused on the regulation of gap junctions, neuron homeostasis, and applying machine learning to recapitulate cell identity from mRNA expression using Jonah crab (C. borealis) as a model system. After earning a BS in Biology from Truman State University and completing his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia, he moved to a Postdoc position at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) where he uses Deep Learning to improve crop yield prediction across genotype, environment, and management combinations. Dr. Kick will be giving a virtual seminar about his career path next Tuesday, August 2nd at 3PM ET. Registration for the event is free and is open to anybody interested.
